There was good general demand for the 84,360 packages on offer at irregular rates which strengthened as the sale progressed with some teas remaining unsold.

 

Brighter BP1s met an irregular enquiry with improved teas fully firm to USC5 dearer but others lost USC9 to 20 while well made mediums were firm to USC4 above last levels put poorer sorts declined by upto USC5; well made lower mediums were well absorbed gaining upto USC10 but others lost by a similar margin. Plainer descriptions were irregular ranging between USC3 to 13 dearer for improved lines to easier by USC10 to 14. Brighter PF1s saw better absorption appreciating by upto USC14 with mediums a strong feature gaining USC3 to 16 but poorer types lost USC2 to 3 while lower mediums saw improved interest at USC3 to 16 above last prices. Plainer sorts were barely steady to USC9 easier. Improved brighter PDUSTs were well absorbed gaining USC3 to 15 but a few lines lost upto USC4 while mediums were barely steady to USC11 below last prices; lower mediums saw price declines of upto USC18 with plainer types irregular ranging between USC8 easier to dearer by upto USC5. Brighter DUST1s saw less interest declining by USC3 to 14 while mediums were irregular with improved coloury sorts upto USC7 dearer but others eased by USC7 to 14 while lower mediums met an irregular market ranging between USC3 dearer to easier by upto USC16. Plainer DUST1s were firm to USC15 below last prices.

 

In the secondary catalogues all BPs were irregularly firm but PFs lost value while clean well sorted Fannings appreciated; similar Dusts were steady. Other Fannings and Dusts eased. BMFs were well absorbed.

 

Pakistan Packers showed very strong support while Sudan lent useful activity with more interest from Kazakhstan(CIS) and Russia while Egyptian Packers and the Bazaar operated at lower levels. Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries maintained interest with the UK active but selective while the Afghanistan and the Egyptian Government Sector showed some interest. Somalia continued quite active at the lower end of the market.
