CROP & GROWING CONDITIONS

(Week 34 – 30/08/2010)

 

KENYA

 

Rainfall averaging 17mm was received in West of the Rift, Kericho. Buret and Bomet recorded less rainfall but Gucha, Nyamira, Kisii and  Sotik reported some precipitation especially Nyamira recording an average of 17.6mm; temperatures of maximum 21°C and minimum 12°C was experienced. Nandi reported drier conditions with heavy downpour reported only on the weekend; temperatures maintained at maximum 25°C and minimum 11°C. East of the Rift continues to record very cold and dry conditions with average temperature of 21°C. Crop levels are expected to show improvement with warmer conditions.

 

EAST USAMBARAS

 

Drier conditions prevailed with temperatures of maximum 30°C and minimum 14°C recorded. Crop shows a slight increase.

 

WESTERN UGANDA

 

Rainfall of between 14mm and 21mm was received in all tea growing areas with temperatures of maximum 32°C and minimum 15°C recorded. Crop remains low.

MALAWI

 

Drier conditions prevailed with warm to hot days but cool nights. Crop is low but on balance improving.

 

SRI LANKA

 

Westerns, Nuwara-Eliya, Udapussellawas and the Low Growns received showers throughout the week while Uvas reported bright weather beginning of the week and showers towards the end of the week. Crop showed a decline in Westerns, Udapussellawas and Nuwara-Eliyas but maintained in Uva and the Low Growns.
