OTHER MARKET CENTRES (Week 34–30.08.2010)

 

 

COLOMBO

 

6.8 million kilos on offer met good demand particularly for the BOPF. A small selection of better Western BOPs gained Rs5 to 10 and more while others were barely steady. Below Best sorts declined Rs5 to 10 while plainer sorts eased further. Nuwara Eliyas better sorts were firm and Rs5 dearer while others were difficult of sale. Udapussellawas declined Rs10 to 20 while Uvas high priced teas were sharply lower with others declining by a similar margin. Better Western BOPFs commenced firm and gained Rs5 to 10 as the sale progressed while others and the Below Best sorts were Rs5 to 10 dearer and moved up as the sale progressed and gained upto Rs20 and more by the close; plainer sorts followed a similar trend and were upto Rs20 dearer by the close. Nuwara Eliyas were generally fully firm while Udapussellawas gained Rs5 to 10. Uvas high priced teas were irregularly following quality while others were mostly Rs5 to 10 dearer. The Low Growns were generally irregularly dearer. There was good demand from CIS, Dubai, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

KOLKATA

 

There was good demand. Well made and better liquoring CTC teas were firm to occasionally dearer while medium sorts were irregular following quality. Dooars were irregular around last. Orthodox whole leaf and brokens were firm to dearer while Fannings were lower with some withdrawals. In the Dust sale liquoring Assams were around last levels with remainder irregular and at times lower. Few better Dooars were around last while remainder tended easier.

 

CHITTAGONG

 

Strong demand at generally firm rates. Good liquoring well made Brokens were sold well although prices were often slightly easier particularly smaller varieties; remainder were fairly firm. Good liquoring Fannings were slightly easier while mediums were firm with plainer types following a similar trend. RDs met fairly good competition and were mostly firm while Ds were generally dearer with CDs mostly sold around last levels.

 

KOCHI

 

There was good demand. Orthodox well made Nilgiris and mediums were firm to dearer while secondaries were around last with stalky kinds neglected. CTCs were fully firm to dearer while liquoring BOPs sold well. In the Dust sale best/medium sorts were irregular following quality while plainer types were firm with bolder Dusts tending dearer.

 

GUWAHATI

 

Good demand. Best and good Assams were irregular around last.

 

SILIGURI

 

There was good demand. The few good, best and better mediums available were barely steady to irregularly lower following quality.

 

MALAWI

 

No sale this week.

 

JAKARTA

 

Good but irregular demand. Orthodox were irregularly easier while CTCs were generally lower with Sumatra BOPF/BP/D2/BTII firm to dearer; remainder were easier.
