OTHER MARKET CENTRES (Week 25 - 30/6/2008)

 

 

COLOMBO

 

7.0 million kgs on offer met irregular demand. Better Western BOPs declined by Rs10 to 20 and more while below best and plainer sorts were lower by Rs20 to 30. Nuwara Eliyas were irregular and difficult of sale while a few selected improved Udapussellawas appreciated by Rs5 to 10 with others and Uvas declining by Rs10 to 15. BOPFs declined by Rs10 to 20 and more for the some of the better sorts while Nuwara Eliyas and Uva/Udapussellawas were down by Rs10 to 20. The Low Growns were generally appreciated. There was less demand from Japan with selective interest from the UK while the CIS were active but at much lower levels; good demand from Iran, Dubai and Turkey.

KOLKATA

 

There was strong demand. Orthodox whole leaf and larger brokens were firm to dearer with smaller brokens and Fannings following a similar trend; Tippy teas sold at attractive rates. CTC selected liquoring teas were around last and at times tending dearer while remainder were barely steady; Dooars were discounted with a nominal quantity of Cachars tending lower. In the Dust sale selected liquoring lines were firm to dearer with remainder around last levels following quality.

 

CHITTAGONG

 

Very strong demand at considerably higher rates. All descriptions were generally dearer.

 

KOCHI

 

Good demand. Orthodox whole leaf and brokens were fully firm to dearer particularly well made sorts while Fannings were barely steady and tending lower with some withdrawals of medium teas. CTCs were lower with some withdrawals of bolder grades. In the Dust sale selected popular and liquoring teas were firm while remainder were lower with lesser sorts firm to dearer except poorer leaf descriptions.

 

GUWAHATI

 

There was good demand. Few selected brighter liquoring Assams were barely steady while remainder tended irregularly easier following quality with Cachars following a similar trend.

 

SILIGURI

 

Good demand. Medium sorts were tending irregularly lower following decline in quality.

 

MALAWI

 

No cable received.

 

JAKARTA

 

Good demand with Orthodox generally irregular while CTC gained in value.
